Save the Date: Second Season will present SOTH’s Warren Beeton who will discuss his recent visit to the West Antarctic Peninsula, Deception Island, and Tierra Del Fuego – the “End of the World.” His photographs will bring to life his encounters with local marine and terrestrial life and demonstrate the effect of climate change on the Antarctic and its wildlife. The program will be held at the Regency at Dominion Valley Clubhouse at 3 p.m. RSVP to the church office or sign up on the Connections insert.
All are invited to an outing on January 13th, to see the Pied Piper Theater’s musical production of Disney’s Newsies. We will meet at the Hylton Performing Arts Center (10960 George Mason Circle) at 2 pm for a backstage tour, and the show starts at 3 pm. The cost is $10 per ticket. Checks should be made to SOTH with “Newsies” in the memo. We need a final head count by January 3, 2019. Come join the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ on Christmas Eve. We gather together for worship services with songs of the season and candlelight. Bring the children to see the annual live nativity with camels, sheep and more from 3 – 5 pm. Join us as we worship together and remember the true reason for the season. All are welcome!
Mid-Week Advent Worship All are welcome to join us for a pot luck chili dinner at 6:30 pm with a Holden evening prayer service at 7:30 pm
The First Annual Crossroads-Connection Cookie Party was a great success. All proceeds collected through cookie sales will be used to purchase food for the 93 children supported by the Crossroads-Connection weekend food program. When: December 8, 2018 from 4 – 7 pm Where: Shepherd of the Hills – 4090 Sudley Road, Haymarket What: *Cookies ($8 for a small box or $12 for a medium box), folks filled boxes from our selection of over 500 dozen homemade cookies. The crowd enjoyed spending the evening sipping hot cocoa and eating cookies while listening to Christmas music and perusing our raffle prizes.
The ladies of SOTH enjoyed the 9th Annual Christmas Tea, all were welcome! We met at church at 6:00 pm, Wednesday, December 5th. Favorite desserts and appetizers were shared for this annual feast, fellowship and fun. A devotional time and Christmas carols were also highlights of this annual gathering.
Sunday December 2nd, 2018 was a milestone for our congregation with 25 years together in mission! We gathered for worship service and celebrated God’s faithfulness through the first 25 years and look forward to what we believe God is calling us to in the coming years. S.O.T.H.’s founding Pastor Wilder, joined Pastors Percy and Qualley leading our worship service. After the service, we enjoyed an informal reception with refreshments.
S.O.T.H. Volunteers enjoyed joining community members in preparing and serving a traditional Thanksgiving dinner to students and families of Pace West School. In addition to a monetary donation from S.O.T.H., volunteers prepared stuffing, potatoes, desserts and rolls for the feast. The day of the feast some volunteers worked in the kitchen, while others served students and their families on the food line. “The kids appreciate it and look forward to it,” one volunteer said. Sunday, November 18th, we enjoyed a special service in Thanksgiving to God. We joined together in song, liturgy and prayer as we worshiped together in thanks. Services were at 8:oo AM and 10:30 AM, education for all ages was at 9:15 AM.
