Eleven church members went to Caroline Furnace Retreat Center in Fort Valley for the SOTH 6th Annual Family Fellowship Fishing Fun day on Saturday, May 11. All had a nice time, and more than 25 fish were caught & released. Some caught their first fish ever, and some caught their first fish in 20 years. This year we were allowed to use the paddle boats on the lake. Thanks to Administrator Julie & Director Tom for keeping the building & grounds in great shape, and for making improvements!

The Second Season group will be having a dinner/movie night out. The Second Season is a group of individuals who enjoy participating in activities (age 55 or older) in our congregation and in the community. We will meet at BJ’s restaurant in Gainesville for dinner at 5:00 pm and proceed to the Regal Theater for the 6:30 pm viewing of Sight and Sound’s “Noah”. Cost of the evening for both dinner and movie is $30 (pay at the event). See the Connections insert to sign up.
Pace West School hosted a thank you luncheon for the many community/”village” volunteers. Groups included Crossroads Connection, Dominion Women’s Club, Rotary, Regency Women’s Club, St Paul’s Episcopal Church, & Shepherd of the Hills. Students, elementary through high school shared their talents by reading self written poems, singing, dancing, playing musical instruments, and movie making. The outpouring of appreciation from the students was heart warming and treasured by all.
For over a thousand years, stories from the Bible have been the source of inspiration for beautiful works of art. To celebrate the Transfiguration of Our Lord (Sunday, March 3rd), we will have a special event between services that looks at two famous depictions of this miracle, Raphael’s *The Transfiguration *and Bellini’s Transfiguration of Christ. Artwork from congregation members will also be displayed around the sanctuary for you to enjoy. Save the Date: Second Season will present SOTH’s Warren Beeton who will discuss his recent visit to the West Antarctic Peninsula, Deception Island, and Tierra Del Fuego – the “End of the World.” His photographs will bring to life his encounters with local marine and terrestrial life and demonstrate the effect of climate change on the Antarctic and its wildlife. The program will be held at the Regency at Dominion Valley Clubhouse at 3 p.m. RSVP to the church office or sign up on the Connections insert.
All are invited to an outing on January 13th, to see the Pied Piper Theater’s musical production of Disney’s Newsies. We will meet at the Hylton Performing Arts Center (10960 George Mason Circle) at 2 pm for a backstage tour, and the show starts at 3 pm. The cost is $10 per ticket.
