Crossroads Connection – Supporting Food Insecure Students in 9 schools (plus video)
If nothing else, 2020 has been a year of change and uncertainty. Crossroads has been waiting, watching, and trying to determine the best path forward. One thing that hasn’t changed is our mission; it has always been and will continue to be eliminating food insecurity as a barrier to learning. The distribution channel for our weekend food bags was through the schools, so we’ve had to re-evaluate that practice.
During this time of remote learning, we will be providing different variety of food in larger portions that will be distributed monthly from Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church (4090 Sudley Road, Haymarket). This food basket is not a month’s worth of food, rather it is intended to supplement meals that are being distributed by PWCS.
Our goal for this year is to support 138 students in 9 schools. Admittedly, this is a stretch goal for us. The highest number of students that we’ve supported in the past was 124. An additional 14 students might not seem like a lot but that’s an almost $4,000 increase to our small budget. Please see the attached flyer HERE for simple ways that you can support the food insecure children in Haymarket and Gainesville.
As always, thank you for being part of the Crossroads Community!
